Wilodge Females sell to 5,500gns

TL & CP Wynne, Hendre Glan Alwen, Llanfihangel Glyn Myfyr,  Corwen, Denbighshire, with their bull Alwen Gersom, secured a fine top price of 6,600gns at the North West Midlands & North Wales Limousin Club’s May Sale held at Welshpool Market on Thursday 16th May 2013. Eighteen bulls in all sold to a very good average of £4,124, a record for this traditional club fixture, and up by £572 on the previous year.

The September 2011-born Alwen Gersom is an AI calf by Carmorn Dauphin and is out of the homebred Broadmeadows Cannon daughter Alwen Candi, and sold with good terminal and maternal figures combining a Beef Value of LM+30 and a Calving Value of LM+1C. Trefor & Carol Wynne run 30 pedigrees together with 50 commercial cows, and Alwen Gersom had earlier been placed Supreme Champion by Judge Mr WA Jones, Bryn Beddau, Rhoslan, Cricceith. Commenting, Will Jones said: “My Champion was a very correct, true-to-type Limousin bull with very good conformation.” Purchaser was H Williams, Dolau, Llangernyw, Abergele.

The Wynnes secured all three leading bull prices when selling two further animals at 5,100gns and 4,700gns respectively to round off a good day’s trade. At the 5,100gns mark was the October 2011-born Alwen Geraint (LM+35), sired by Wilodge Cerberus and out of the Cloughhead Umpire daughter, Alwen Ceirios, when going under the hammer to JM Lewis, Pentwyn, Pumsaint, Llanwrda. Securing a final bid of 4,700gns from A Rowlands & Son, Noyadd Fach, Nantmel, Rhayader was Alwen Gwern (LM+32), another by the 50,000gns Wilodge Cerberus, and this time out of the Limo Tanat-sired Alwen Ceri.

Knocked down for 4,400gns was the first prize-winning Garyvaughan Greed consigned by local vendors CV & EM Lewis & Sons, Buttington New Hall, Buttington Cross, Welshpool. This two-year-old Limousin bull is by the 35,000gns herd sire, Plumtree Deus, and is out of the Ronick Hawk granddaughter Geufron Chanel. New owner is I Gibbon, Garreg Farm, Cydwely. Messrs Lewis sold three other Deus sons here at 4100gns, 3900gns and 3700gns respectively.

The Reserve Overall Champion, Twemlows Garfield, took the next leading price at 4,100gns when brought out by WL & JA Forrester, Twemlows Farm, Higher Heath, Whitchurch, Shrops. Sired by Rainbow Simon and out of the Normande Urquhart-bred Twemlows Eve, this October 2011-born bull sold with a Beef Value of LM+36 to MK Roberts, Glascoed Hall, Llanrug, Caernarvon. Earlier, the Forresters had sold two other bulls at 4,000gns and 3,500gns.

A Rees & Son, Tynllwyn, Llanfair Caereinion, Welshpool sold four bulls in all when topping at 4,200gns with the second prize-winner, Tynllwyn Gerry, a June 2011-born Glenrock Universal son and out of the homebred  10-year-old cow, Tynllwyn Upmarket, when purchased by JG Clayton, Great Brimmon, Brimmon Lane, Newtown. Mr Rees’ next best was the 4,000gns Tynllwyn Goal, by Sarkley Colonel and out of the seventh-calver Tynllwyn Susanne, when heading to HJ Marsh & Sons, Stokesay Castle Farm, Craven Arms.

A consignment of cows and calves from the Wilodge Herd on behalf of Miss C Williams, Lodge Hill Farm, Park Lane, Shifnal, Shrops met a top price of 5,500gns to see five outfits in all average £4,137. Heading the trade was the 2007-born Wilodge Cavenelle, an embryo calf by Nouvelle Prospect and out of Ravenelle, mother of the prolific 42,000gns Wilodge Vantastic. Wilodge Cavenelle was sold with her January 2013-born heifer calf at foot, Wilodge Isocele (by Powerhouse Elite) and scanned back in-calf to the French AI sire, Bonux. Purchasers were T Jenkins & Sons, Torycoed Farm, Rhiwsaeson, Llantristant for their Torycoed pedigree Limousin herd. At 4,100gns was the 2005-born Wilodge Amayzing, a daughter of Wilodge Upshot and out of Ironstone May. She was sold with her Wilodge Enrico-sired bull calf at foot, Wilodge Isaac, and back in calf to the same sire, to EE Davies & Co, Erwpistyll, Aberdovey.

CV & EM Lewis & Sons sold a batch of in-calf and maiden heifers to a top of 4,500gns. This came in the shape of the November 2011-born Garyvaughan Gem, a Plumtree Deus daughter and out of the Nouvelle Prospect-sired Garyvaughan Elegance. She now heads to JD Evans & Son, Lake Farm, Churchstoke, Montgomery who also snapped up the similarly bred 2,500gns Garyvaughan Hinky for their Pentrenant prefix.

Messrs Forrester sold 17 maiden heifers to average £1,880. Leading price was the 2,900gns Twemlows Ghia. April 2011-born, Ghia is a daughter of the AI sire Uskudar and is out of the Wilodge Vantastic daughter, Twemlows Dominique, who had previously won second prize in the NW Mids & N Wales Limousin Club Herd Competition for Best Homebred Heifer. She sold with a Beef Value of LM+32 to WS Layton & Son, Knoakes Court, Ivington, Leominster.
