A team of Young Limousin Breeders also gained an excellent third position in the Young Show Stars Challenge.
Taking home the National Spring Spectacular Show Supreme Championship under Judge Mr Elfed Williams, Station Court, Sennybridge, Powys was the January 2012-born heifer calf, Temptation, from TA & LC Lyon & Son, Lintre House, Water Lane, Thurlby, Lincs who run a 40-head commercial cow herd. Exhibitor-bred to boot, this heifer had earlier been put up as Continental Heifer Champion. Described by the judge as “a very well-balanced heifer with width, great second thigh, very showy and a real star,” she had previously won the Baby Beef Championship at Smithfield 2012 and will now head to the Herts County, Great Yorkshire & Royal Welsh Shows.
The “well-fleshed, full of meat” Steer Champion, Harlem Shake, from Mr & Mrs M Alford, Foxhill Farm, Blackborough, Cullompton, Devon was a purebred Limousin by Cawfields Dazzler and out of Arkle Diana. January 2012-born, this steer was bred by OJ Kendall, Woodyard Farm, Reeth, N Yorks and was purchased at the Leyburn Potential Sale for £1,400. This April-born 382kg calf was bred by Messrs Bowen & Bowen, and was sired by Liscon Bigshow, a Cloughhead Titanic son bred by Mr J Mulholland, Cumbria. Messrs Edwards had purchased the Baby Beef Championr at the Ruthin Show Potentials Sale. Taking reserve spot was the second prize winner from the same class for Phil & Sharon Sellers, Thorpe Tilney, Lincs with the 324kg Limousin-cross heifer Top Notch. September-born, she is by Ronick Hawk and had stood champion calf at Ruthin where she was purchased

Continental Champion was DS, D & PD Brute’s 2007-born Limousin-cross cow by Bailea Umber (by Requin) with her with a March-born heifer calf at foot sired by Brutus Fusion (Sympa x Sarkley Velvet). Reserve Champion was another Limousin-cross outfit from Dai Brute.
