The NI Limousin Cattle Club’s annual suckled calf shows & sales are well under way and Ballymena was the first venue to hold the annual event on the 27th September.
Judge for the day was Mr Leslie Hood, Ballymena and he undertook the challenge of judging large classes of both bull calves and heifer calves. As per normal Ballymena was thriving with many commercial breeders and after some deliberation Mr Hood put forward his limousin champion to the male champion presented by Joan Gilliland, Muckamore bred from a home bred bull with Broadmeadow Cannon bloodlines. This calf went on to sell for £1,200, 520 kgs to purchaser C Reid, Aghalee. Reserve champion went to a female calf bred from Ampertaine Commander and presented by Vincent McMullan, Kilrea. Also selling for £1200 at 350kgs this calf went to purchaser R McCurdy, Broughshane.
The Club would like to thank J A McClelland for holding the event, judge Leslie Hood for acting as judge for the morning and to all the commercial breeders who took part in a great show of limousin cross calves.
