The in-calf heifer Roxburgh Ideal from John Elliot, Roxburgh Mains, Kelso, made 7500gns to top a high clearance of Limousin females at the British Limousin Cattle Society’s Early Spring Female Sale.  The sale, held on the evening of 12th February at Borderway Mart, Carlisle, saw the ongoing demand for Limousin females continue with 64 of the 71 forward selling in all to average £2059 and gross £131,776.

Roxburgh Ideal is a full sister to the noted Wilodge Diamante.  She is by Wilodge Vantastic and is out of the Toubib daughter Wilodge Amethyst.  Sold as PD’d in-calf to Ampertaine Elgin, the October 2013 born Roxburgh Ideal was purchased for the establishing Mystyle pedigree herd of W Richardson & Son, Ghyll House, Dufton, Appleby, Cumbria.

The Richardsons, highly noted suckled calf producers before recently dispersing their commercial herd, also bought the joint second top price in the shape of Barrons Jay from Willie Barron, Morrow Edge Farm, Burnhope, Durham.  This March 2014 born maiden heifer is by the herd’s 40,000gns stock bull Mereside Godolphin and is out the Wilodge Vantastic sired Sarkley Fayme.

Also selling at 5500gns was Castlenook Jojo from A&J Irving, Toppin Castle, Heads Nook, Brampton, Cumbria.  Another May 2014 born maiden heifer, Jojo is by the Irish AI sire Elite Forever Brill and is out of Castlenook Fenella, a Cloughhead Umpire daughter.  Fenella, whose progeny have sold up to 8000gns, is herself out of Ronick Sandra a full sister to the prolific Ronick Hawk.  Purchasing this heifer was Thor Atkinson for his Arradfoot pedigree herd at Meadow View, Newland, Ulverston, Cumbria.

Another from John Elliot, Roxburgh Izola, made 4200gns when selling to the South West of England and the Highridge herd of GN Dunn, Ridgepark, Highridge Farm, Sampford, Courtenay, Okehampton, Devon.  This October 2013 born in-calf heifer is an embryo calf by Carmorn Copilot and out of the noted Sarkley Ola (a Gaulois daughter with Ronick Gains on the dam line).  Roxburgh Izola was sold PD’d in calf to Ampertaine Elgin and due to calf in May.

The very next lot, Roxburgh Inova, sold for 3500gns to Aisling O’Brian, Millrace Close, Forkhill, Newry, Co.Armagh.  This embryo calf, also by Carmorn Copilot, is out of the French bred Nova and is a maternal sister to the 12,000gns Roxburgh Homeland.  Her maternal brother is the noted show bull Samy from the Grahams herd.  Roxburgh Inova, October 2013 born, was sold PD’d in-calf to Ampertaine Foreman.  Continuing a good run, Roxburgh Jevise made 3500gns when selling to the Calogale herd of Gareth Lee, Gerycoed, Four Roads, Kidwelly, Dyfed.  Described as a ‘real powerhouse’ this January 2014 born maiden heifer is one of the first Ampertaine Foreman daughters to be offered at sale.  She is out of the French bred female Devise, an Ultrabeau daughter.

The consignment of maiden heifers from Willie Barron also saw Barrons Lizzie make 3800gns.  Another by Mereside Godolphin, this calf is out of Barrons Emma a Sarkley Volvo daughter.  Taking Barrons Lizzie home was GJ Carroll, Edendiack, Huntly, Aberdeenshire.

Early in the catalogue Cloughhead Jean from George Hutton, Setmabanning, Threlkeld, Keswick made 3000gns.  A May 2014 born maiden heifer, she is by the French sire Gultime and is out of the Delicieux female Cloughhead Glorious.   The following day, Cloughhead Jerry, also by Gultime sold at the bull sale for 18,000gns to the Newhouse herd of RM Adam & Son.      Buying Cloughhead Jean was SH Hamplett for his Petersfield pedigree herd at Booden Grange, Haughton, Stafford.
