Ballymena Mart was packed on the evening of Wednesday 24 January for the annual sale of commercial in calf heifers from Will & Gareth Corrie, Drumhilla Farms. Billed as the “Leading Ladies Sale” this event is now firmly established as a firm favourite for commercial farmers to source their herd replacements. Buyers had choice from over 100 head of beef bred heifers including a strong cohort of Limousin types.
Topping the sale at £3200 was an exceptional Limousin heifer carrying to a top quality Limousin bull. She was sold to Carrigreen Farms Ltd, Co Antrim. Chasing this at £2950 was another black Limousin heifer selling to a Tyrone suckler producer who selected a number of top lots on the night. The hammer went down at the same price for another smart heifer to D & R Simpson. Given that the annual event has earned the reputation as a ‘must go to’ sale, many repeat customers were in attendance and one buyer snapped up an impressive 17 lots.
The sale averaged £1680 for 103 lots.
