A ‘first’ for the pedigree beef sector saw the British Limousin Cattle Society’s May Sale at Carlisle take place as an Online Timed Auction with Auctioneers Harrison & Hetherington spearheading this new technology as a reaction to the Covid-19 situation.
Held 1st to 5th May, the virtual hammer went down with a top bid of £15,000 for Ian Nimmo’s Maraiscote Phil, a February 2019 born son of Bassingfield Machoman (by Millgate Fame) and out of the Goldies Comet daughter, Maraiscote Firtree. Purchaser was the pedigree Procters prefix of Procters Farm Ltd, Slaidburn, Clitheroe, Lancs.
Messrs Wood & Sons, Ratlinghope, Shrewsbury, Shropshire then paid £13,400 for Haltcliffe Paul from Haltcliffe, Hesket New Market, Wigton being a son of Ampertaine Elgin and out of the well-bred Haltcliffe Donna (Haltcliffe Vermount x Cloughhead Romany).
At £10,400 was another from the Nimmos this time in the shape of Maraiscote Prince who sold to Messrs MacDonald, Dunbeath, Caithness. January born, he is another by the Machoman sire and out of the Comet-sired Maraiscote Donna.
Making the same money, and the final five-figure bull, was Deerpark Pluto who was knocked down to Messrs Davidson, Keith, Banffshire. Bred by C&R Mulhollanhan, Aghalee, Co Armagh, Pluto is by Plumtree Fantastic and out of Ampertaine Isadora, a daughter of Ampertaine Elgin.
The female trade was led by Goldies Omaria who sold for £10,600 to Messrs Jones, Caernarfon, Gwynedd. Consigned by Bruce Goldie, the September 2018-born Omaria is by Wilodge LJ and out of Goldies Jasmine (Cloughhead Umpire x Goldies Vitality).
