On the Wednesday 2nd March 16 bulls and six females travelled across Scotland to the Multi Breed show and sale at Aberdeen and Northern Marts. There was great support from both commercial and pedigree buyers resulting in a strong trade.
Top price on the day was the September 2020-born Westpit Rocknrolla who sold for 6,000gns, brought forward by Messrs A and J Gammie, Drumforber, Aberdeenshire, who was awarded the Scottish Limousin Club Salver for Best Limousin Bull at the Show. Rocknrolla has double F94L myostatin and is rated in the top 10% for Beef Value at LM41. He is sired by the French AI bull Vagabond who sold for 8,800gns in September 2010, and out of the Greenwell Delight who goes back to Tanin. He was snapped up by the commercial buyer A Mackay and Son, Strath Farm, Caithness.
Next up at 5,000gns was Ronick Rhinestone presented by Mr R Dick, Mains of Throsk Farm, Stirling. This May 2020-born bull has F94L/Q204X myostatin and a top 10% Beef Value of LM43. Rhinestone is sired by the renowned Ampertaine Jamboree who was sold for 45,000gns in October 2015 and is the one of the herds stock bulls. He is out of the homebred cow Ronick Moonstone who goes back to Rathconville Eugene. Rhinestone sparkled and shined catching the eye of M G Reid of the Gyratesmyre herd, Gyratesmyre, Laurencekirk.
Following closely behind at 4,500gns was Clury Robin from W F Cruikshank and Sons, Clury Farm, Highland. This March 2020-born bull, who won reserve champion, has double F94L myostatin and a Beef Value of LM28. Robin is out of the homebred cow Clury Joy and is sired by the herds stock bull Larry. He goes onto work with G and K Beverly, Cottown Farm, Huntly.
Four bulls sold for 4,200gns the first being the April 2020-born Wedderburn Rudeboy who was brought forward by J K Hunter, Wedderburn, Aberdeenshire. Rudeboy has a double F94L myostatin and a Beef Value of LM21. He is sired by the herds stock bull Westpit Ollie and out of the homebred cow Wedderburn Grace. He now resides in Inverness being purchased by B Alexander, Treeton.
Selling for the same price of 4,200gns was Shannas Rumpole from Mr and Mrs J Penny, Shannas, Aberdeenshire. Rumpole is out of the homebred cow Shannas Demerrara and is sired by Anside Lexion who was purchased by the herd for 5,000gns in May 2017. This April 2020-born bull has double F94L myostatin and a Beef Value of LM35. He was purchased by P Cooper and Son of the Govals herd, Govals Farm, Forfar.
G and A Kindness, Blackhouse, Ellon purchased the May 2020-born Walkers Renn also at 4,200gns, presented for sale by P A Walker, Easterside, Aberdeenshire. Renn has double F94L myostatin and a Beef Value of LM29. He is out of the homebred cow Walkers Loren and is sired by Allanfauld Gazza which the herd purchased for 8,000gns in October 2012.
The final call for 4,200gns was for Elrick Revolution from Mr J Massie, Mains for Elrick, Aberdeenshire. He is sired by the homebred bull Elrick Jethro, who goes back to Rahoney Geoffery and out of the homebred cow Elrick Crownhead. Revolution has a myostatin status of F94L/Q204X and a Beef Value of LM39. He heads home to P J and I Stuart, Ledmacoy, Strathdon.
FEMALES
A consignment of females was brought forward by Mr and Mrs J Penny Shannas, Aberdeenshire. Six were presented and sold resulting in a 100% clearance rate, achieving an average of £2,459.
J Stuart of Belnoe, Ballindalloch purchased two of the females from the Shannas herd. The first being Shannas Ryneth for 2,900gns, born unassisted in April 2020 and bred out of the milky homebred cow Shannas Gwyneth. She is sired by the aforementioned bull Anside Lexion who goes back to Powerful Irish and has a Beef Value of LM34.
The second purchase of the day for J Stuart was the April 2020-born heifer Shannas Renata for 2,600gns. She is out of the homebred cow Shannas Martha and is sired by Procters Noah who goes back to Fenomen. Renata has a Beef Value of LM38 and was born unassisted.
Next to sell was Shannas Roberta for 2,459gns. She has a Beef Value of LM39 and was born unassisted. This April 2020-born heifer is out of the homebred cow Shannas Eartha and by the homebred bull Shannas Magnate. She goes home to I Sclater, Breckan Farm, Orkney.
A L Smith, Culhay, Alford purchased Shannas Roxy for 2,350gns. This April 2020-born heifer has a beef value of LM38. She is out of the homebred cow Shannas Jollity and is sired by Shannas Magnate who goes back to Alagils Inkerman.
