The National Beef Association’s Beef Northern Ireland 2012, held on Tuesday 6th March at Dungannon Farmers’ Mart, Dungannon, Co Tyrone was well-supported with a confirmed attendance of over 2,000. Held every two years, this one-day event was reflective of the positive outlook at present in the Beef Industry and had the support of more than 100 trade stands with breed societies, commercial companies and educational organisations well represented.
The British Limousin Cattle Society stand, kindly run by the NI Limousin Cattle Club, stood out in terms of content and presentation, attracting a good crowd of both pedigree and commercial breeders. Miss Joan Gilliland, Chairperson of the NI Limousin Cattle Club, commented: “There was a nice buzz on the stand and we had a lot of good feedback from commercial and pedigree breeders alike. We were delighted to see both old and new faces come along and talk to us on the day.”
Thanks go to local breeder Derek Hume for the loan of his pedigree stock bull Culnagechan Exceptional, a Heros son and out of the well-known dam Carlorn Penny, and also to commercial breeder Vincent McMullan, Kilrea for putting forward five youngstock for display.
