£3500 tops Leyburn Spring Spectacular
Leyburn Auction Mart in North Yorkshire held their sixth annual show & sale of Show Potential cattle with a catalogue entry of 56.
Judges Andrew Dickinson (steers), Tecwyn Jones (heifers) and Trevor Stoney (young handlers) were welcomed to the mart to carry out their duties.

John Smith-Jackson from Haltwhistle in Northumberland triumphed for the third year running taking the championship with Limousin Heifer Red Velvet which sold for £3500 to Mr Phil Sellers, Lincolnshire.
Reserve Champion |
Overall reserve was consigned from the same stable, a Limousin steer named Rebus, making £2300 to Andrew Dickinson.

Champion British Blue heifer & overall British Blue champion – Garrowby Estates, York, £2400.
Champion British Blue steer– Garrowby Estates, York £1300.
Reserve champion steer – Garrowby Estates £1660.
Reserve champion heifer – John Fenwick, Barnard Castle, not sold.
Other principal prices came from the Dent Family, Naby View, Barnard Castle with Limousin heifer at £2100; Bill & Maureen Orme, Hawes British Blue heifer £1500; Will & Gillian Sedgley, Garsdale British Blue steer £1280; Garrowby Estates Lim steer £1200; Stephen & Richard Priestley, Bradford Limousin heifer £1000.
Averages: Steers £1091, heifers £1094.
Lucy Corner of Newton Aycliffe claimed the overall Young Handler prize having come first in the 16 – 20 year old category. Second to her was Jennifer Hyslop, Ayrshire and James Bailey from Leyburn third. Luke Wilkinson of Leyburn took first in the under 16 section
