Croeso /Welcome!

We start with looking back to 2012 where the November Brecon Sale saw 30 bulls sold to average £3,449 with a top price was 8,900gns. Aled Edwards held a Production Sale from his Dyfri Herd in December at Llandovery Mart with a top price of 10,000gns paid for the heifer Dyfri Fioled and a solid average.

The cold late spring took a long time to warm up. Our Spring club sale was held in Whitland in April where prices topped at 2,400gns for a Bial-sired Mynach bull.

Brecon in May saw an average of almost £3,770 for 48 bulls and an 83% clearance. A top price of 5,700gns was achieved by Loosebeare with a bull sired by Gronw Cheeky which sold back to Club, going to Mr & Mrs Comer, Moonleaze Herd.  Best local breeders’ sales were 5,300gns Dinmore Grotto, 4,800gns Gelliwion Gameboy and 4,700gns Cowin Gatland.

Eventually the summer weather got going and lasted well into the Autumn. In June, at the Young Limousin Breeders Club, National Stockjudging Competition our club representative Lowri Davies, took joint 3rd in the Overall Individual contest.

Visitors to the Royal Welsh were met with a strong show of cattle with Reserve Female & Reserve Overall going to Dinmore Elegance from Paul Dawes who also had the Junior Champion, Dinmore Hannah. Reserve Junior Male Champion went to Mynach Harlequin from Daf & Jane Griffiths, Mynach. The Griffiths also had the best Welsh resident, exhibitor-bred female Mynach Gwi.

Brecon Stars of the Future Show saw another good day for Mynach with Overall Champion Mynach Hula, and Overall Male Champion, Mynach Harlequin. Highest Beef Value Bull went to Tynewydd Hakka, and highest Maternal Value heifer to Tierston Handfull.

Young Limousin Breeders were in action again in August at the Anglo-Irish Stockjudging event. Second Senior individual was Thomas Corbett. Thomas was joined by Lowri Davies and Orla Curtin and together they came second in the team event. Orla also won the junior individual title.

Early September and intermittent showers didn’t deter a sizable crowd from enjoying an excellent display of cattle and hospitality at the open day at Dyfan & Carol James, Cowin Herd, last year’s overall herd competition winners.

The Autumn sale in Whitland was moved to October where 6 bulls averaged £2,090; 12 cows averaged £1,611; and 9 Heifers levelled at £1,009.

A huge thank you to our Herd Competition judge, Andrew Quick, who spent a great deal of time and effort touring the countryside and coming back at the club’s annual dinner to give out the results.
