The Club had quite a busy programme of events throughout the year. These were well organised and supported events, very much enjoyed by all who attended.
On 26th April we had the Stirling Primestock Show & Sale. We had a good entry of quality cattle. Hugh Black attended as the judge. The champion was a Limousin cross heifer from Sandy Hay, Mains of Cultalindie and sold for £1.80 per kg.
At the Lanark Primestock Show and Sale there was again a good entry of top quality cattle. This time the judge was Henry Cairns. Again the champion was a heifer, this time shown by David Dickinson of Greenburn, Cannonbie.
On 22nd May, we had a brand new event – the Lanark Scottish Beef Fayre. We had a very good stand with some excellent cattle, kindly provided by David Baillie (Calla), Mark Graham (Greenshields), Gavin Scott (Gateside) and Ian Nimmo (Bogside).
On 26th May we went to Steven Irvine’s at Drummuir for our Open Stock Judging competition and a very enjoyable day was had by all. The winners were (Seniors) Billy Laing, (Ladies) Judith Murray and (Juniors) James Graham. We then had a barbeque to finish the day off nicely.
On 31st May the Royal Northern Beef event was held at Fraserburgh. The Club was very much involved with the Limousin stand having some very good cattle on display, kindly provided by John and Margaret Penny, John Brown, Ian Wilson and Steven Irvine.
21st June brought us to the Royal Highland Show where things were really busy on the stand with the barbeque proving to very popular yet again. The tickets sold out very quickly!
We held our farm walk at Michael Massie’s, Mains of Elrick on July 28th where we had a very successful day, despite the poor weather conditions. It was very well attended and everyone was really impressed with the cattle and thoroughly enjoyed the hospitality provided by Michael and Lisa.
In September we had our Herd Competition. This year we had our biggest entry of 26 herds. Daf and Jane Griffiths judged this year enjoying their first ever visit to Scotland in the process!
So we’ve had quite a busy year despite the various disease problems down south. The only event we had to cancel was the Exhibitor of the Year competition. This decision was brought about with so many shows cancelled from Perth Show onwards.
Chairman Ian Callion & Secretary Kathryn Lawson would like to thank all the members for their support and help over the year and look forward to a successful 2008.
